The Sisters Take On Charter School Review Asking the Usual Dumb Questions

After Wednesday night's Board of Education meeting here in the City of No Illusions I am beginning to wonder if maybe I am suffering from a few delusions. Did Florence Johnson actually ask the charter school people who were up for renewal how diverse their faculty is ?

citation from Liveblog of Board meeting :

Johnson: I was just looking at the demographics and I wonder how diverse your faculty is.

Taylor had asked about that earlier, before Johnson arrived.

Luka: That is something we've recognized as an area of need that is on our radar screen. We not only want to diversify the population of children but our staff as well.

(The school is 97 percent African American, I believe.)

Hernandez: You don't have any English language learners?

Luka: We have four.

And did Taylor zero in on this same pointless factoid earlier, while Flo Jo was caught in traffic at the drive through window now that there's not a 5 star buffet available to da Boardfolk any more ?

Do the sorority sisters of the Buffalo Board of education have anything better to do with their lives than run around playing race cards on every goddamned situation they see ? Do they watch NFL games and ask where the black referees are ? Do they order from LL Bean online and ask why the sales rep is white? When they shop for groceries do they bring a tape measure to see how many feet of shelf space are dedicated to "Silvia's" food items. And if the Goya section is bigger do they call the manager over?

Here's a clue : get a life ladies, one that involves everyone not just the perceived black vacuum you've filled in nicely with a Superintendent and yet another student board member. Question ? Can a white kid be the figurehead student board member too or is it understood that it has to be a black kid? I think I know that answer.

What's also comical is the answer from the charter rep who apparently knew this crowd and knew the question was coming and responded in similar Newspeak essentially saying yeah no shit but we have every intention of pretending we will hire some more black people.

Check out this Orwellian gem of a response: That is something we've recognized as an area of need that is on our radar screen. We not only want to diversify the population of children but our staff as well.

My question to the sisters and the Luka is this : Why do you have such a NON diverse population of kids with 97% of them being black? How is that good for anyone unless it means the charter can hammer them with zero tolerance discipline policies and prepare them for life in prison by treating them like they are convicts not students.
