Open Letter to Da B-Lo Nooze : Pasciak, Esmonde and Watson

Are any of you high minded education privatizers at The News going to look into the remark Ralph Hernandez made on the Board of Ed liveblog that someone was illegally copying Bflo school parent data and giving it to charter schools so they can contact buffalo parents?

I'll be sure to post this and link it twitter and FB so everyone can see how The News likes to pick and choose their moments of outrage and indignation. I'll bet you a Chris Jacobs bobblehead doll and an Emerson Commons placemat autographed by Jimmy Dubz that none of the News' ed privatizing rah rahs dare to report a phoneme of it. Just doesn't meet their editorial standards.

You all love a "failing school" a "selfish teacher" hit piece but watch how nobody commits a keystroke to yet another tale of underhanded, illegal and deceitful antics from the people who think they deserve to make a profit from kids attending school. Have you see this one? [BN]KRUPTCY  Its coming.

  1. I hope that when they discover who is copying parent information illegally, they fire the coniving jerk. Ralph should follow up on the matter.
Anyone who works for the BOE and and chooses to help the charter corporations take over our schools, should be fired.
Public school employees ahould be working to get the public schools properly financed and get the class sizes reduced.

The News has been critical of the suspension policy. Sprinkle a few loud and unruly folks in the editorial office and see whether the Editor's become less critical, and more supportive of the hard working teachers, and the kids who come eager to learn.

Perhaps that wouldn't sell papers, but maybe it would. There are lots of folks who like the schools their kids attend. They never seem to make the editorial pages. What's that about?

Doesn't any reporter at the News know the mandates in the NCLB and RTtT laws? Hard to beliee that they are so unprofessional as to neglect to find out all sides of the stories they tell...or the news they objectively report...Not!

  2. The West Buffalo Charter School spent lots of time during the summer going door to door to the homes of recent refugees and urging them to sign their children up for "school". They targeted those with very limited english skills. On the first day of school, when those refugee families showed up to be welcomed at their regular Buffalo Public Schools, they were told that they were no longer enrolled and that they had signed up to go to a charter school. As you can imagine, chaos and misunderstanding ensued. It turns out that those targeted families, who were very happy with the ESL services that their children were receiving in the BPS, had no idea that they had switched schools. They were confused and saddened when they were turned away on the first day of school.

I have to believe that the West Buffalo Charter had enrollment information. The fact that they deliberately preyed on non-english speaking families makes this all the more slimy.
Combine this with the fact that West Buffalo Charter does not adhere to ESL mandates (that is a different sad story) and it is clear that charters will do almost anything to enroll "live bodies" to get the $$$$$.

I know this story is a bit off topic but it is one that you would never read in the "BNadvertisement for charters" News.

Now, direct your attention to today's Buffalo News article on the refugee issues that Viva La Casa compassionately deals with. Those are the refugee families that Buffalo schools proudly serve. Does the public ever make the connection between the punitive policies of State Education and NCLB? Do the News reporters ever try to make that connection? No, they serve their greedy masters and consistently write the Pro-School-Privatization articles that the local 1% seem to love so much. But I guess we all have to "serve" somebody. Public school teachers choose to serve the population in the City.

    Here is the link:

And thank you to Viva La Casa for supporting OUR beloved refugee population.

  3. Nobody on that newspaper looks into anything that could possibly reveal the slimy realties of the privatizers and their true purpose. The News is content to go with the anything but this meme the same way redneck morons will support a guy like Romney even though he'd outsource their jobs put them into foreclosure and walk away with 200 million simply because he is not the black guy. The News has such a hard on for unions and teachers they refuse to acknowledge the dedication and herculean efforts of many Buffalo teachers, all they see is failure and panic which is what the privatizers tell them they should see. Essentially, the only newspaper in the City of No Illusions is dedicated to promoting the illusion that privatized schools are going to rescue our kids from the big bad unions of public education. Put any union's budget up against Gates, Broad, Bloomberg and the moron from Walden Media and let's see who's wielding the power. Gates alone has 30 billion in his warchest and idiot boy Zuckerberg feeling guilty maybe after his shitty IPO las handed Newark 100 million to settle with their teachers. It's not the teachers or their unions who've got muscle to flex here friends and we need to remind everyone of this reality. We can't count on the newspaper to do it that's painfully clear.

  5. DON'T FORGET TO SHOW UP FOR THE CHAMELEON CHARTER HEARINGS
MONDAY-all public school supporters should make an attempt to attend the "hearings" in which a few wealthy Buffalo lawyers and their wives tell the public why they want to make money off of public education.

    Community Health Center
    34 Benwood Ave.
    Buffalo, NY 14215
    Monday, October 22, 2012
    6-7 PM
Just by the fact that they have slotted only one hour, I think they assume that they'll be doing all the talking and we'll be doing all the "hearing".
The original intent of the "conversion charter" legislation was for the "conversion" to be the will of the community. The summer meeting of The Chameleon Charterists was proof that their slimy takeover is NOT the will of ANY community. Actually, it is the will of a very arrogant minority. These folks went running to their King in Albany when they were not put on the Board of Ed Executive Committee agenda. Big Daddy King got mad that his darlings didn't get the respect that they certainly feel is due to them. He was so mad that he puffed himself up and had one of his little Assistants send a serious letter to the Board of Ed essentially FORCING them to put the Chameleons on a future agenda. That meeting will take place on November 7th at City Hall.

    Show up. Speak up.

You can look Mr. Martinez up at this Great Schools site. You can look up the rating for any school. It's fun.

    Peg,

I have searched greatschools in the past and have to admit I did look Martinez up earlier today. I also looked up eDoctrina but could only find the company drivel and no info about its CEO. I found something on Linkedin about Eon Verrall but that was it. When I tried calling the contact number(s) at eDoctrina to ask who its CEO is the company name isn't even named. The message just says, "If you know your party's extension, enter it now." Everything seems so guarded and secret. To find out that my school is using this software makes it seem like we are contributing to our own demise (which aren't we anyway thanks to our unions selling us out and contributing to Obama (just about any politician these days).
I will look for you tomorrow night. You will not be the only senior there, I guarantee it. I will be wearing my Those that can, TEACH, those that cannot pass laws about teaching button.
