Welcome to any and all with even the slightest interest in the educational issues we're all facing in WNY and B-Lo in particular. My role here is primarily to facilitate discussion in a family unfriendly fashion. Think of Jim Rome's show The Jungle with all the concomitant smack required to efficiently make your point while gleefully shredding the other guy's. Feelings will be hurt, reputations damaged and egos bruised. The fact that the Buffalo News is now going to a pay for play stratagem, Shout out to Jimmy da Pimp Williamz , now ensconced somewhere in the bowels of Maryland, living large on his Chop House Silverware and Emerson Hospitality bath soap and breath mints. And since I am loathe to donate one farthing to such an anti union dishrag of a one horse newspaper, this is where I plan to hang my pointed pedagogue's hat for the near future.
Here's an opening salvo that neatly piggy backs the Sunday News story about the local city official who seems to have been wheeling and dealing real estate for his own profit while also serving as an Edison Schools director. http://www.buffalonews.com/city/communities/buffalo/article916951.ece
In today's opener we see some privatizing folks who spent tax money on themselves instead of the special ed ed. kids they claimed to be spending it on. Is anyone surprised by this pattern of people claiming to be all about the kids yet as soon as they get their hands on a few bucks the kids can kiss it and it's time to start the party without them ?

ReplyDeleteI have no intention of paying for Buffalo News access either. I hope after the last couple of years all Buffalo teachers have canceled their subscriptions.
I will tweak this thing in the next few days, just wanted to get it up and running. Thanks for stopping in.
DeleteHe's baaack....
ReplyDeleteYou've been too silent for too long (Well sort of silent). Guess you're back on the read list.As for the news, I still get print copy. Need something to start the charcoal and such.
This is great, Sean

Just following the links on your page, I was able to watch "An Inconvenient Truth About Waiting for Superman". If you havent watched it, you should. Its what we have been writing about all year.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your fantastic way with words. I too won't be paying for the news. It is such a sucky press release rag.
ReplyDeleteAconn--I know the people who made "An Inconvenient Truth..." Very cool, very active teacher group in NYC. I went to the world premiere at Riverside Church in NYC and got to meet Diane Ravitch! They definitely know their shit (as do we) and are VERY organized!
ReplyDeleteWe should try something of the same here. Maybe a screening somewhere. Just something to think about. We are seeing this crap happen right in front of us here in the Buff.
DeleteI did give a copy of the film to Phil, but never heard back. I thought we should be able to screen "An Inconvenient Truth..." at a school, much like Buffalo ReformEd, errr, I mean DPCC, screened the charter school movie.
DeleteAgreed, seems like we have the audience. We need teachers across the region to stand up for what's right instead of just letting BTF be the usual whipping boy.
