Friday Poem

With Apologies to Countee Cullen's "For a Lady I Know" which I have updated for the current paradigm here in the Empire State

She thinks even up in Heaven
her class sleeps late and snores
While little black charter schoolers start test prep at seven
To bump up their standardized scores.

Good to know a Harlem Renaissance poet writing in the 1920's was able to nail down the exact mentality of our post modern Gilded Ager grande dames nearly a century ago. Good to know nothing really changes.
